Louisa's Wimpole Half Marathon for SUDEP Action page

Story

Earlier this year my nephew, Felix, was lost to SUDEP, sudden unexpected death in epilepsy. Felix was 20 years old when he died and was full of enthusiasm for life, especially the theatre which he loved. It was a terrible shock to all of us to suddenly lose him, and this loss has left a huge hole in our family. I wanted to do something positive to raise awareness and funds for SUDEP Action, the charity who support families through this terrible loss, provide somewhere for people to turn in grief, and fund research into SUDEP.

I started running a few years ago to try and get fitter. I've managed a few  10km events but never gone as far as a half marathon. This will be a big challenge for me, but knowing how important this cause is will (I hope) help me get there.

Today I finally did it! The weather was perfect - a little bit sunny but not too warm. The scenery was lovely - I especially enjoyed running past the rare breed cattle and over the footbridges of the type that could easily have trolls under them. Here's a picture of me before and after, and just approaching the finish line. I want to say a big big thank you to everyone who supported me with encouragement or donations or both. I'm really touched and grateful, and I know the rest of my family is too. xxxx

Nearly at the end...

Autumn days when the grass is jewelled and the silk inside a chestnut shell...Just about to go off for my last big training run. Last weekend's big run was up to 18km, I got lost, fell in the mud, and wasn't sure I had 3km of beans left in my legs. So I'm a bit nervous about whether I can really do this...got to get my positive thinking head on. Just keep running and smiling!

It feels like the end of the summer is really here. The blackberries are nearly finished and the pears on the tree in the garden are nearly eaten (by me in crumble and the pigeons off the lawn). Here I am having a good stretch after this week's long run. Now up to 14km, still got quite a bit of work to get to target. Have bought a running magazine and hope this act of itself will count for a training session.

Been for a couple of long runs since last update. Longest has been 90 minutes, managed this but felt quite tired afterwards. On this run I came across a little pony who had escaped from his field. I took a diversion up to the farm (further than I thought) to let the owners know. Apparently this naughty pony is well known for escaping and they were totally unsurprised. Here he is safe back in the field. So I feel I did a good deed for the day as well as managed to extend my run by a good 1 or 2 km to make it to the farm and back along the track.

Another week, another long Sunday training session. Went through a new bit of woods in my neighbourhood I haven't explored before and found a little den apparently inhabited by gnomes and fisher-price people. Forgot to take a pic as I am new to this and was thinking about running, but will try and remember to do this next time. Am planning to increase run time a little each week to get me to two hours by October the 8th - only 40 more minutes to reach the two hour target, how hard can it be?

I did my first official training run this weekend. It's been really hot so I went to the woods where it wasn't too bad. Actually really enjoyed it. Tried out a new running armband for my phone, never realised my phone was so heavy. Decided to put on my left arm to build up strength as I am right handed...am sure this will help...
